CRANDON - Richard Ackley Sr. celebrated his 92nd birthday on Tuesday. That longevity is admirable in and of itself, but Ackley's service to our country is also something to admire. His birthday present this year was extra special: recognition of his service to our country; a country that didn't even recognize him as a citizen when he was born.
"I've had a lot of birthdays along the line, but I've never had anything similar to this," Ackley said.
His celebration had the usual birthday staples: cupcakes, family, and friends. But it had something you wouldn't usually find at a birthday.
