TOMAHAWK - A local hospital just received huge recognition. Being top in the nation for anything is a big deal for small communities here the Northwoods, but in Tomahawk they just received that honor.
Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital is one of the top 20 critical access hospitals in the U.S. They beat out more than 1,300 others for the award.
"Critical Access is more for rural hospitals. It's Medicare's way of classifying the rural hospitals. It reassures that small towns like Tomahawk in northern Wisconsin will have access to quality care," says Carmen Viegut, Manager of Patient Care Services.
