Photojournalist killed by Al-Qaeda has ties to the Northwoods

THREE LAKES - Al-Qaeda terrorists killed an American photojournalist this weekend.

Luke Somers was born in Britain but graduated from Beloit College in southern Wisconsin in 2008. But before he graduated, he worked here in the Northwoods.

Teaching Drum Outdoor School Director Tamarack Song says Somers and his girlfriend worked there six years ago for six months. The Three Lakes school focuses on teaching students how to survive in the wilderness. Somers helped him edit his first book.
