RHINELANDER - DNR biologists think this winter's milder weather will lead to a larger and healthier deer population than we saw in northern Wisconsin last year.
The DNR measures the severity of winter weather in Northern Wisconsin on a scale called the Winter Severity Index.
To calculate the Winter Severity Index, the DNR adds the number of days with below-zero temperatures to the number of days with at least 18 inches of snow on the ground.
