EAGLE RIVER - Small, local banks in the Northwoods often struggle to stay profitable. For example, last year's branch closure of the First National Bank of Eagle River left Phelps without a bank.
But one community bank seems to be going the other direction.
The State Bank of Florence just opened a new branch in Eagle River.
